The song
Genoa, a tavern by the sea, and the fishermen—the song's protagonists—who return to land to warm their weary bones and find solace in their harsh existence, bound to an endless wandering between sea and shore. The signature song from Faber's revolutionary 1984 album, written in collaboration with Mauro Pagani, a work dedicated to his hometown and sung entirely in the Genoese dialect.
A hybrid, almost dreamlike tongue, rich in borrowings and influences, indecipherable to most, becomes a popular and universal Mediterranean language.
